The NLSY79 is a nationally representative sample of 12,686 young men and women born during the years 1957 through 1964 and living in the United States when the survey began. The survey respondents were ages 14 to 22 when first interviewed in 1979. During the years since that first survey, the participants in this corhorts typically have finished their schooling, moved out of their peoples' homes, made decisions on continuing education and training, entered the labor market, served in the military, married, started families of their own, and thought about their retirement expectations. Data collected from the NLSY79 respondents chronicle these changes and provide researchers with a unique opportunity to study the life-course experiences of Americans men and women

National Longitudinal Surveys Program

The NLSY97 consists of a nationally representative sample of 8,984 men and women born during the years 1980 through 1984 and living in the United States at the time of the initial survey in 1997.  Participants were ages 12 to 16 as of December 31, 1996.  The NLSY97 collects extensive information on respondents’ labor market behavior and educational experiences.  The survey also includes data on the youths’ family and community backgrounds to help researchers assess the impact of schooling and other environmental factors on these labor market entrants. Data from the NLSY97 also aid in determining how youths’ experiences relate to establishing careers, participating in government programs, and forming families. Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses

Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities (IFF) program

Administrative dataset including employment and wages on all establishments in the United States, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands. These data are collected through a Fed/State partnership that leverages the state administered Unemployment Insurance (UI) programs.

Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) program produces monthly and annual estimates of job openings, hires, and separations including quits, layoffs and discharges, other separations, and total separations (also known as turnover) for the nation as a whole, by ownership (private vs. public), region, and supersector and select sectors based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). At the total private level, estimates are produced by establishment size class.

The JOLTS program also produces estimates for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. State estimates are produced monthly at the total nonfarm level job openings, hires, and separations including quits, layoffs and discharges, and total separations.

The Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program produces employment and wage estimates annually for nearly 800 occupations. These estimates are available for the nation as a whole, for individual states, and for metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas; national occupational estimates for specific industries are also available.

The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) produces comprehensive, accurate, and timely counts of fatal work injuries. Records include information about each workplace fatal injury such as occupation, other worker characteristics, equipment involved, and circumstances of the event. This version of the CFOI is available on-site at BLS and through FSRDCs, and includes more variables (such as finer geographic identifiers) than the other version of CFOI on this list.

The Current Employment Statistics (CES) program produces detailed industry estimates of nonfarm employment, hours, and earnings of workers on payrolls. CES National Estimates produces data for the nation, and CES State and Metro Area produces estimates for all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and about 450 metropolitan areas and divisions.

Current Employment Statistics

The International Price Program (IPP) Research Database contains a representative basket of items and prices of nonmilitary goods and air transportation services traded between the U.S. and the rest of the world. Approximately 20,000 prices are collected monthly and price changes for unique items are tracked over time. Unique items are retained in the basket for a set reference period and the basket is refreshed over time as new companies are introduced into the sample.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) program measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. The prices included in the PPI are from the first commercial transaction for many products and some services.
